Playing Nintendo With God is a candid, emotionally charged portrait of how life must go on when AIDS hovers on the horizon.
Playing Nintendo With God is a candid, emotionally charged portrait of how life must go on when AIDS hovers on the horizon. The film follows the experiences of four families and two children at a camp in California for people living with the AIDS virus. Homeless kid Jake stares down its loaded barrel alone, un-supported by his family. As he shoots-up crack he explains to the camera that narcotic comfort is the only thing that numbs the misery. Crystal, 23, (who has subsequently died) supports her son Sammi with the help of her mum and their church. A brave and resilient young woman, her crutch through the suffering is prayer and family. United in the shadow of a fatal disease, social, ethnic and geographical divides are laid aside. Ordinary people share their fears and pain, humour and honesty, support and generosity with the camera and each other.
