Travelling undercover through the world’s most secretive and repressive state.
Dispatches reporter Deborah Davies investigates how internal unrest is threatening the stability of Saudi Arabia and whether the homeland of Osama Bin Laden has become a breeding ground for terrorism. A recent bombing campaign has been blamed on turf wars between, mainly British, Westerners involved in the illicit alcohol trade. Deborah meets one of the Britons who has been accused of involvement and uncovers the brutal conditions in Saudi jails where five Brits are still being held. The film also reveals how non-Muslim foreign workers are routinely tortured and even executed for minor crimes and how many ordinary Saudis are living in poverty while the ruling royal family enjoy vast wealth.
