The Real Tojo looks at the life of Japan’s General Tojo and asks, “Was he really ‘the beast of Tokyo’ or merely an innocent martyr?”

The Real Tojo looks at the life of Japan’s General Tojo and asks, “Was he really ‘the beast of Tokyo’ or merely an innocent martyr?” Tojo, Japan’s Prime Minister at the time of Pearl Harbour, was captured in 1945 and executed as a war criminal. To the allies he was an Asian dictator, a man who shared a plan for world domination with Hitler and Mussolini, while his granddaughter heads a campaign to have him portrayed as a misunderstood militarist. A new Japanese film claims he was not an aggressor at all, but a patriot who fought a defensive war and died for his country after an American show trial.
