Sophie Grigson explores Europe’s culinary diversity with her husband William, sampling traditional foods and wines on a tour which takes in eight countries. In Sicily they help cook Sunday lunch for a farming family (and learn how to make the holes in macaroni) and a Portuguese fishing trip produces a delicious dinner. The mountains of Spain and Switzerland give them the chance to sample ham from acorn-eating pigs and cheese made by Toto the shepherd. Sophie meets some paprika-obsessed Hungarians and William goes on a pigeon hunt in France, while the bustling, exotic produce filled markets of Istanbul contrast starkly with the Norwegian islanders’ thousand ways to cook cod.
