image

A trilogy of Oscar Wilde’s best known stories for children: The Nightingale and The Rose, The Selfish Giant and The Devoted Frien

Animated in three distinctly different styles, each of the films starts and finishes with storytelling device featuring a family. This family consists of Uncle Arthur, his niece Tilly and her young daughter Ruth. Arthur has fallen on hard times and so he moves in with Ruth and Tilly. Over the course of a summer he introduces them to the magic of story-telling, opening up their imaginations with the wonderful tales he tells.

The films feature a host of well-known voice talents including Pete Postlethwaite, Brendan Gleeson, Fiona Allen, Anna Chancellor, Jim Carter and a cast of talented child actors. All three films are being animated at TerraGlyph’s studio in Dublin. The scripts were adapted from Wilde’s original texts by Andrew Clover.

The project originated with a Warner Teldec music CD which features an original orchestral score by renowned film composer Debbie Wiseman. This CD was nominated for a Grammy Award and Debbie Wiseman was asked to adapt these scores to the animated films.

The trilogy is being financed by Channel 4 TV and TerraGlyph with assistance from the Irish Board and sold internationally by Channel 4 International.
