Slick, sick, subversive and surreal
Launched by Channel 4 in 1989, this ground-breaking sketch show doubled its audience in its first six weeks. Slick, sick, subversive and surreal, the six-person Absolutely team rewrote the genre’s rule book with their unique brand of post-Python silliness.
Based around a handful of characters, each programme has a a thread of bizarre logic running through it. There’s Denzil the Welsh carpentry freak and his grotesque wife Gwyneth, the infuriating Nice family, mr don and mr george, the world’s most boring man, most stupid schoolgirl and disgusting geriatric. Fresh and unpredictable, the high-quality humour is sustained throughout.
