It’s the biggest, most expensive and most ambitious British warship to be built since World War Two.
The Royal Navy’s new Type 45 “Stealth” destroyer will be packed with state of the art missiles that will revolutionise air defence. Each ship will cost £1 billion and six will be built. It will be the birth of an entirely new class of ship and the first, HMS Daring, is expected to enter active service in late 2010. ITN Factual has unprecedented and exclusive access to film the entire process. This film captures the thrills, challenges and achievements as the Type 45 goes from the drawing board to open seas. The Type 45s will serve the UK for decades: providing the backbone of the Royal Navy’s air defences. Armed with an integrated ‘Sea Viper’ radar and missile system, Type 45’s will be capable of engaging multiple targets - defending UK and allied forces from simultaneous attacks by salvoes of the most advanced and deadly anti-ship weapons in the world.
