One Night In Emergency marks the television debut of critically-acclaimed playwright, Gregory Burke.
Inspired by Homer's Odyssey and Gregory's own experiences, this hard-hitting drama charts one man's journey through the wards of an overrun, inner-city hospital.
Starring acclaimed Scots actor Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy, Trainspotting, Rome), leading all-star cast that includes Michelle Ryan (The Bionic Woman, Doctor Who, EastEnders) and Igal Naor (Green Zone, Occupation, House of Saddam). The drama also features James Cosmo (Braveheart, Trainspotting), Ewen Bremner (Black Hawk Down, Trainspotting), David Hayman (Trial & Retribution, My Name Is Joe), Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, My Name Is Joe), Jamie Sives (Valhalla Rising, The Passion), Sanjeev Kohli (Hope Springs, Still Game) and Tam Dean Burn (River City, Wedding Belles). Peter and Penny are an ordinary middle class couple: childless, career-minded and cosseted. But when Penny is admitted to Accident & Emergency with what appears to be a minor complaint, their world is turned upside down. Peter is slow to leave work and arrives at the hospital late. It’s a busy night, and the emergency department is full of the ill and injured. Frustrated by the lack of help he receives, Peter decides to take matters into his own hands. He begins to wander the corridors in search of his wife. As he ventures deep into the labyrinthine building, a series of strange encounters begin to divert him from the task at hand. Over the course of 24 hours, he is drawn into a surreal parallel world of officious security guards, social outcasts and drug-addicted hospital staff. Will he escape in time to see the woman he loves and atone for past mistakes? One Night In Emergency is directed by the Golden Globe-nominated Michael Offer (The State Within, The Passion, Moses Jones) and produced by Dan Hine. Silver River Productions for BBC Scotland and Scottish Screen 'Kevin McKidd excelled in a nightmarish ramble through the underbelly of the Western Infirmary.' Daily Record 'This is not your average hospital show, that's for sure: this is the world of dreams, not reality, where things happen because they must.' Scotsman
