Follow the historic and gripping story of the fight for Afghanistan’s next presidency

**SHORTLISTED FOR IDFA 2010**

This observational documentary will navigate the spider’s web of ethnic rivalries and gender differences that fuel Afghanistan’s political culture. It will reveal an extraordinary and vulnerable country on the brink of profound change. It’s a political thriller that grips the audience regardless of their previous knowledge of the country. In examining a state that is learning what it means to vote, this film will get to the heart of what democracy truly means for the majority of people.

We learn the story of the presidential election through the eyes of three of its leading candidates - Dr Ashraf Ghani, Dr Abdullah Abdullah and Dr Ramzan Basherdost. The latter has been campaigning alone with a total budget of $1,000 and has built up a huge following around the country. Also a former minister, he polled the highest vote in Kabul back in 2004. He is touring the country without staff or bodyguards in a campaign in support of the poor.

We follow each candidate as they travel the country on the election trail. We see them as they address the voters, women in particular, as they hunker down to discuss strategy, respond to rivals’ accusations, try and raise money, garner support around the country and the world, in short - do what it takes TO WIN what must be one of the least desired jobs in the world - The President of Afghanistan.
