Drug-addicted teenagers attend a public high school outside Boston dedicated to serving students in recovery.
Over the last decade, the number of American teens entering rehab has jumped 65 percent. But more than half of all teens who have been to rehab say that within 24 hours of discharge they are pressured by peers to use again. And over 80 percent will ultimately relapse within the first week of returning home. Going back to school and the same social cliques are often the trigger. Enter Rehab High, a high school cum rehab, where in addition to a normal curriculum, students also attend daily AA/NA meetings, submit to weekly drug tests and counseling sessions. Rehab High follows students as they work on their recovery and go through the normal high school rituals: prom, college applications, senior picture day, driver's education, parent-teacher conferences, etc.
