India's Frontier Railways

Reconnecting families, cultures and history

Freedom came to the Indian subcontinent in August 1947, when British India was hastily partitioned and Independence was attended by a bloodbath between Hindus and Muslims. The British had divided the Indian subcontinent into India, Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) as well as redefining the border of Nepal. Those geographical and political frontiers remain and the divisions the British created are deeply ingrained in the psyche of the subcontinent.

Today that tragic legacy is slowly being eroded through another British legacy, the Railways. Each film will begin in India and journey across a border by train. Through the lives of the characters whose stories are entwined with the Railways, we see the subcontinent as it has never been seen before.
