The women who took on the art world
The cultural revolution of the 1960s set the stage for what would become the formative art movement of the last four decades - feminist art. On both sides of the Atlantic women were tearing up art history, reinventing the arena of contemporary art with experimental new art forms and provocative political statements. Questioning everything, from the way women were presented in magazines to the right to equal pay, female artists aimed to change the way women were perceived. Together these women changed the world - or did they? Told through the voices of a number of remarkable female artists, including Judy Chicago, Mary Kelly and Carolee Schneemann - who used her body in her art - this film tells the story of the women’s art movement, paying tribute to those that paved the way, and examines the legacy of that work today.
