Two years research, three months in the Venezuelan rainforest, four days by canoe, five days on foot, an attempted coup, malaria, the near loss of 110 rolls of completed film in a bizarre air accident... It’s amazing this documentary was made at all. With remarkable and intimate footage of the Yanomami community, an isolated tribe whose lives have changed little for 1000 years, the film focuses on a feast of reconciliation and marriage between two communities which have fought for the last 30 years. Preparations, however, are constantly interrupted. There is a new battle for the Yanomami to overcome: the battle against the Western diseases ravaging their people. Andy Jillings and his team film shamanic rituals, a funeral ceremony, and the grief of a community which lost four members in eight weeks.
