Honduras has the highest number of reported cases of AIDS of any country in the world outside Africa. Almost half of its sufferers live and work in the poorest part of San Pedro Sul.

Made for the ground-breaking Red Light Zone, Ruth Scholfield’s film examines the Honduran dilemma by focusing on four characters immersed in the sordid sex-trade of the Barrio Suncery. Erika is the bar girl. Sold into slavery at 13, she works at the Chicas Bar Bordello, run by Oscar the pimp. Jackie is the Catholic. Once a transvestite prostitute, he now has full-blown AIDS and lives in a hospice for AIDS sufferers run by the priest. But how many people must die before Father Jim’s work is taken seriously?
