History is full of well-preserved secrets and, now, two scientists believe they have exposed another.
Could there be a connection between mummies found in caves on the Canary Islands and the greatest mummifiers of them all, the ancient Egyptians? This remarkable and previously undreamed of possibility was originally uncovered in the mid-14th century when Spanish adventurers first arrived in the Canaries and were shocked to discover the Guanches, a cave dwelling, goat herding people who mummified their dead, in a manner similar to that employed by the Egyptians. Using state of the art scientific equipment to examine one of the few remaining Guanche mummies, Egyptologist Dr Joann Fletcher and archaeologist Mike Eddy unearth some major finds which link the Guanches with the ancient peoples of Africa and Egypt. This specially commissioned film follows their history-making studies, which take them on a transcontinental journey of discovery.
