BROTHERS: Norway's last coal mine, Mine 7, is situated on the arctic island of Svalbard. Rookie Adrian arrives to fulfill his life long dream of becoming a coal miner. Deep inside the mountain Daniel begins as a prestigious cutter. Foreman Bent knows the risks involved: he has lost his own brother in a mining accident.
Episode 2
WHATEVER WILL BE, WILL BE: After a rough childhood on the mainland, Dan has settled in the small mining community of Svalbard. He has fallen in love with a French traveller, Laura, who is sleeping on his couch. But the dark season comes with trouble for their future together. Rookie Adrian is given his first tasks in the mine, and is invited to create his own clock made of coal.
Episode 3
SAVIOUR: Daniel is preparing for the annual physical test for the mine's rescue unit. They are responsible for searching and rescuing their own colleagues in case of an emergency. If he fails the test, he will lose his job as a miner. After a demanding fire drill, Dan decides to surprise Laura with a romantic dinner for two. Stakes are high when he realizes that the menu is way too complicated.
Episode 4
THE HEART STOPS BEATING: Dan and Laura's relationship takes a dramatic turn, and Dan goes to Adrian for support. To get his mind refocused, Dan is challenged to a squash game that gets heated. A cargo ship is about to brig a large shipment of coal, and Marius as the sole electrician on the island has to solve a huge problem before the valuable cargo is able to leave.
Episode 5
THE DREAM: Jon Gunnar is about to play his first solo concert, but is nervous about presenting his own material. The national election is coming and Head of mining, Per, is nervous for the mine's future. He hopes that the government will agree that coal mining is an integral part of Svalbard. Laura and Dan go on holiday together to Greenland despite their recent breakup.
Episode 6
THE BIG GAME: Dan's childhood friends are visiting and he proudly shows them the island. They go on a trip to the Russian settlement of Barentsburg where Daniel is about to defend Norway's honour in the annual football match between the Norwegian and Russian settlers. The gang crashes a party and gets close to the Russians on the island.
Episode 7
BETWEEN BORDERS: Coal has lost popularity in the Norwegian society, and Per is worried for the future of Longyearbyen if all the industrial jobs disappear. Together with geologist Malte, he goes on an expedition to secure new resources for the company. But this time they look for gold. At the same time the miners are getting in to a serious argument about pancakes.
Episode 8
DARK SEASON: The dark season has come to Longyearbyen. To deal with his loneliness, Dan invites a new French girl to his couch. When he is forced to evacuate his home due to the risk of an avalanche, he seizes the opportunity to get a new safe home. Adrian misses his girlfriend and goes on an expedition to the ice caves with Dan. Here they get to experience both friendship and rough nature.
Episode 9
SONS OF THE SUN: After months of darkness the sun finally returns to Svalbard. Per is given the unexpected task of organizing a chamber music festival in the mine. This is an unfamiliar sight for most of the miners. Daniel and Marius are given an urgent mission on the other side of the island. And we meet Joachim - the miner who met his dream girl and now is planning to leave the island after years of amazing experiences in the arctic nature.

THE VERDICT: The future of the Norwegian mines is at risk. A decision is near. Head of operations, Per, is hopeful that the mines will be saved. Rookie miner Adrian is looking forward to a long life as a miner, but will he keep his job? Everything is decided when the government finally breaks its silence.
