of audience and contestants is brilliant - it’s like Oliver Stone’s Wall Street
performed by the cast of The Jeremy Kyle Show. Contestants are lied to - their
dreams of winning are gleefully pissed against the wall by a studio audience
who look like they’d cut your throat for the price of a kebab. As guilty
pleasures go, it’s right up there with picking your nose and leaving it under a
table for somebody else to find.

Gethin Jones has landed his own daily quiz show, based on the bunfight that was
the oldfashioned Stock Exchange.
In Sell Me The
Answer, the player asks the audience - traders - for help when stuck by
shouting out:”
Traders, Me the
Answer!” Everyone in the audience then” fights it out” in scenes of mayhem,
shouting why they should get picked to get up on stage with the contestant.
But the snag is
traders can lie. And anyone managing to bluff successfully can win a load of
cash while the contestant gets zilch. The top prize is a not-to-be-sniffed-at £
25, 000.
Gethin says:”
The lure of money does funny things to people. I expect that there will be
fireworks in the studio.”

presenter Gethin Jones is to front a new "greed-based" quiz show for
Sky1 that will feature a stock exchange-style trading floor. Sell Me the
Answer, will feature contestants being asked up to 10 questions, each worth an
increasing amount of money. If they do not know the answers they will be able
to ask for help from 60 'traders' who will try to convince them to negotiate a
price for what might or might not be the correct answer. Contestants will be
able to win up to £25,000 in prize money. Andrea Hamilton, Sky1's commissioning
editor for entertainment, said: "It's an innovative and noisy quiz show
format that is the perfect antidote to other quiet, contemplative quiz
offerings. Time, greed and money are the essence of the quiz. "The stakes
are high and it's a game of all or nothing. There will be a real sense of
tension and excitement in the studio that will leave the players unsure of who
they can trust." Sky1 has ordered 50 episodes of the hour-long quiz, which
will also air on Sky's high-definition channel, from production company Thumbs
Up. Filming will begin in April. "This is a quiz show that people will
definitely be talking about the next day in the office or at school and Gethin
has the perfect mix of warmth and fun," Hamilton said. Martyn Redman,
executive producer for Thumbs Up, added: "The beauty of this show is that
everyone is in with a chance to win big money prizes." Sell Me the Answer
started as a quiz on Manchester radio station Key 103's breakfast show, Toolan
in the Morning. In 2008, the quiz was awarded Gold in the Sony Radio Academy
Awards where it was described as a "genuinely new and innovative format
that provided sustained involvement for the audience and continuing opportunity
for wider participation".
