Synopsis
The expedition of a lifetime

The Namibian desert is an arid stretch of sand and rock stretching for hundreds of miles in one of the hottest, driest environments on earth. It is a place where even hardened former special forces Major Ken Hames has to stay on top of his game to survive. But the Falklands veteran and tour-leader has another problem to contend with - he's heading up an expedition consisting of six very different British couples who have no experience whatsoever of desert survival. His aim is to take them through the desert on an arduous 28-day trek, meeting en route the Himba, a people who have learned to survive in this brutal environment. Made by award-winning filmmaker Paul Watson (The Dinner Party, Sylvania Waters), this fascinating three-part series combines footage of the group in the desert with that of their lives back home, offering a unique insight into what happens to relationships when put under the most stressful conditions imaginable. Their methods and attitudes reveal entrenched Englishness, values that don't survive easily in the desert extremes.
