Ekranoplan
Synopsis
Half boat, half plane, the Ekranoplan was designed by Soviets during the Cold War. Able to travel at high speeds for low cost, this extraordinary machine flies just a few feet above water like an enormous cruiser with wings. Developed by the inventor of the modern hydrofoil, all production of the Ekranoplan was halted following the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. But the theory is faultless, and the boat-plane has a proven track record in tests. Now, in the post-Glasnost era, the West has joined in the race to build the first commercial Ekranoplan.
Complete with amazing footage of the Ekranoplan’s maiden flight in 1966, this documentary illustrates the viability of the machine and looks forward to the near future when commercial 300-seaters may well be a reality...
