Synopsis
The making of feature film 'Drowning By Numbers'

Fear Of Drowning is Peter Greenaway’s idiosyncratic companion piece to his feature, Drowning By Numbers. You will have come across many “the making of...” programmes before but Greenaway, naturally, does his a little differently. Accompanied by clips of the film, the Director effectively delivers a critical essay on his own work, illustrated with the paintings, particularly from the Victorian period, that influenced the visual impact of the film. In addition to outlining the plot, Greenaway expands on the film’s structure (a number count from 1–100 appears throughout the film), its ruling obsessions and chief metaphors. An intriguing insight into an enigmatic film from one of Britain’s most controversial film makers.
