For the Love of the Leader
Synopsis
Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi’s beliefs on the role of women in Libyan society may come as something of a surprise. Heavily influenced by his Bedouin upbringing (his mother was the tribe’s best archer), Gadaffi’s opinion of women’s military ability is such that his personal bodyguard consists entirely of female soldiers. Recruitment into the Jamahiryan Guard is the highest honour for the cadets at Tris Girls’ Military Academy, the only female officer training school in the Islamic world.
At the invitation from Gadaffi himself, Witness visits the academy and meets the revolutionary nun whose job it is to spread the leader’s views on women. But, when the camera crew tries to talk to Gadaffi and his loyal guards, things don’t go as planned.
