It Runs On Water
Synopsis
Using water as an energy source seems inconceivable, but it is the storehouse for one of the most powerful fuels in the universe: hydrogen. Weight for weight, the constituents of water have two-and-a-half times the explosive power of petrol. Unfortunately, you can’t get more energy out of a reaction than you’ve put in, and releasing hydrogen from water molecules requires an enormous amount of energy. However, some inventors claim to have produced water-breaking machines that produce more heat, hydrogen and electricity than conventional calculations would allow.
Equinox visits five inventors who claim to have produced such ‘over-unity’ devices. Have they managed to mine the fluctuating energy that exists in the vacuum between particles? If so, it could be the start of an energy revolution.
