In 1999 Dr Stuart Meloy, an anaesthiologist in North Carolina was carrying out a routine procedure. He was implanting a device that 'blocked' pain by changing the electrical signals that travel up the spinal column. He was attempting to find the spot on the spine of a woman who suffered from chronic back pain. Suddenly the women let out a gasp and said - 'You have to teach my husband how to do that!' Since his accidental discovery, he has developed the device further and is now undertaking the first large scale clinical trials. This film will follow a number of different women taking part in Meloy's trial. Some have never experienced an orgasm before - or they may have suffered neurological damage which prevents them from doing so. The Orgasmatron may offer their best chance of a fulfilling sex life. Alongside the human narrative of this experiment, the film will ask broader questions about how the female orgasm works.
