Synopsis
Fifteen years after the fall of Communism Marcel Theroux goes on a personal journey through Putin’s Russia.

Death Of A Nation Fifteen years after the fall of Communism Marcel Theroux goes on a personal journey through Putin’s Russia. He discovers a country that’s literally dying. By the middle of this century Russia will have lost between a third and a half of its population. Why? He meets multimillionaires and the destitute, persecuted ethnic minorities and extreme right wing paramilitaries, junkies and mob-oppressed businessmen in an attempt to understand what’s happened to the country since the end of the Soviet Union and whether, faced with the devastation that’s already happening, Russia in its current state can possibly survive. Once Upon A Time In Siberia This film travels to Russia’s “Wild Wild East” to follow Vitaly Dymochka, a provincial mob boss, as he tries to go legitimate in order to pursue the unlikeliest of dreams: making it as a film director with an action trilogy based on his own violent past – starring himself and other real life bandits. Featuring unique access into a secret world, the programme is a comic yet ultimately chilling look at everyday life inside the Russian mafia.
