The Bodyguards takes 12 ordinary members of the public, and, for three weeks, puts them through one of the toughest and most rigorous training programmes in the world - instructors include Princess Diana's former bodyguard and ex-Special Forces experts. The recruits face their first test when they're kidnapped on their way to Bodyguard HQ. And for some of them things don't get much better at HQ - PhD student James MacInnes is in no shape for the intensive physical training they face. Martial artist Laurence Kennedy faces no such problems, but is less prepared for a sub-zero late night stakeout. Among the training the recruits receive is the "best part of the job" - high speed evasive driving, beginning with a simple test, which doesn't start well, and graduating to driving under attack, which is much more demanding... And at the end of the first week the recruits face their first big test - to protect a VIP staying in a hotel. Laurence volunteers to lead the exercise in an effort to atone for the late night stakeout. But will things improve after his less-than-impressive debrief?
