Synopsis
The LA riots, Rodney King’s beating, OJ Simpson’s police chase and images of child abuse by babysitters – they are all imprinted on our collective memory and caught on videotape.

With over 40 million cameras now in private hands, the camcorder revolution is upon us, transforming not only the way we see, but what we see.

From frolicking toddlers on the beach to errant husbands caught in jeeps (later to commit suicide when the evidence was shown on national TV) cameras are used for surveillance and accepted as evidence in court. Fans of the revolution relish the democratising of knowledge, but this programme contains shocking and compelling examples of the de-stabilising effect that amateur video is having on our institutions.
