Synopsis
Five years ago, it was thought that AIDS would wipe out millions. Today the West talks confidently of a possible cure in the not-too-distant future. Indeed, powerful drug combinations now keep people alive where before they would have died.
This documentary picks up where 1993’s The Plague left off, examining recent successes and failures in the fight against AIDS. It shows the scientists at the forefront of research and the patients who have been given fresh hope. Unfortunately, optimism is not felt worldwide. There are two million AIDS orphans in Uganda. While in Russia, the collapse of the rouble means hospitals can no longer afford the drugs needed to keep their patients alive.
