Synopsis
An entertaining political satire

Although originally broadcast in the late 1980s, when the Conservative Party under Margaret Thatcher held sway, A Very British Coup has just as much satirical relevance today.

Harry Perkins is a radically left-wing politician who, on the strength of a radical manifesto, wins a general election to become Prime Minister. Despite his popularity with the public, Harry soon realises that everyone – from the media and the civil service, to the armed forces and the Americans – wants to stop his radical policies. Harry stands his ground but his enemies want him out and attempt blackmail. Harry survives, but we are left wondering who exactly runs the country...
