Doctor Mateo has become one of Antena 3’s (Spain) most successful scripted format adaptations. Based on the UK original it features a grumpy, socially inept doctor, whose tactless manners and blood phobia causes mayhem in a small seaside village in the north of Spain.
Notro Films, the producers of the Spanish version, adapted the original format to reflect the differences in the Spanish health system and the Spanish lifestyle.
The local bar in Doctor Mateo is the focal point for all the important characters and gossip has become not only a way of life, but also the catalyst for many plotlines.
The award-winning series aimed at a young audience between 24 and 45, is one of the highest rating dramas on Antena 3 in its Sunday evening primetime slot.
