Synopsis
The mud men are back digging up Britain to find new historical discoveries dating back to the 1400's

Mud Men Johnny Vaughan and Steve Brooker are back for more muddy historical adventures, mudlarking along the banks of the Thames and beyond as they take their search for hidden history further afield like never before.

Our intrepid team hunt not for buried treasure, but artefacts that could change our understanding of the past forever. Their enthusiasm and fascination with the remarkable finds they pull up from the mud leads them on quests to discover all about Britain’s captivating past.

Their finds are all verified by Dr Michael Lewis from the British Museum, deputy Head of the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The stand out artefacts propel them on historical adventures to discover more about our past, from the origins of our police and fire services to the incredible stories behind the Great Fire of London and the German occupation of Alderney.

The Mud Men are always up for the challenge as their quests see them tackle British history by getting hands on with anything, whether it’s firing canons, driving steam trains, looking after sheep or facing petrol bombs. Nothing is beyond the Mud Men as they always seem to encounter some rather unexpected, often unpleasant, challenges, including ghost hunting, creating a football from a sheep’s bladder and making cloth using stale urine.

As well as scouring the Thames, Johnny and Steve venture further afield on their search for fascinating history. The Mud Men travel to the Channel Islands to discover about life under the Nazis during the Second World War, learn about the secrets of Henry VIII’s famous warship the Mary Rose in Portsmouth, and brave the dangerous River Severn mud at a ship’s graveyard in the West Coutry. Whatever the topic, whatever the challenge, the Mud Men dig history like no-one else.
