Synopsis
The successful Dutch adaptation of the classic British comedy series, Doc Martin

Actor Thom Hoffman stars as the successful vascular surgeon Dokter Tinus (Doc Martin).

Successful vascular surgeon Dokter Tinus is suddenly confronted with a phobia of blood, making it impossible for him to continue working in a hospital. He decides to move from the capital to the countryside and goes to work as a village doctor where the only person he knows is his Aunt. Dokter Tinus’ predecessor was very popular, making for a less than warm welcome by the locals. His bedside manner leaves much to be desired, making it even harder for him to win his place in the close-knit community. The first season launched in Autumn 2012 to superb ratings, immediately triggering the second season order.

Episode 1: The Amsterdam surgeon Martinus Elsenbosch is transferred to the tranquil village of Wourkem where he goes through the selection process to find a new general practitioner for his practise. Dr. Elsenbosch is shocked by the village’s old fashioned culture and struggles with new found challenges; his brutal assistant, Kim; the clumsy plumber. Bert; and a male patient with a rather embarrassing disease… The only ray of hope is the local teacher, Lisa De Graaf .

Episode 2: The practice is officially opened and Dr. Elsenbosch receives his first patients. Martinus is appalled when he finds his waiting room full of villagers eating and drinking tea using his practise as a cafe. When his assistant Kim ignores the patients with little interest, Dr. Elsenbosch takes action. Martinus is an unabashed doctor with little sympathy for its whining patients.

Episode 3: A stomach bug is plaguing the village and Martinus warns villagers on the local radio station not to drink the water but all his good intentions are misunderstood. Meanwhile the local plumber Bert fights with his son, Gilles, who wants to go away and study instead on continuing his plumbing career.

Episode 4: Bas, a pupil of Lisa de Graaf, is unjustly accused of vandalism, village agent Ken struggles with his potency and Martin questions the medication for the eccentric hermit Jurriaan Buske. Ultimately, these three things have more to do with each other than we could have guessed.

Episode 5: Koert, an old sailor, returns to Wourkem and rekindles his romance with Martinus’ Aunt Jane. Martinus has gained a young teenage admirer who repeatedly returns to the practise.

Episode 6: The villagers learn of Martinus’ fear of blood which formed the reason of his departure from Amsterdam and tease him endlessly. Martinus must overcome his fear when he becomes the only person who can save a severely ill child before it is too late.

Episode 7: An old love of Lisa’s returns to the village which puts the already damaged relationship between Lisa and Martinus under even more stress. Meanwhile Martinus has his hands full and tends to a friend of his aunt with dementia and a fisherman with a multitude of ills returns to his practice.

Episode 8: A difference of opinion about the treatment of a mysterious virus among schoolchildren leads to a sharp argument between Lisa and Martin. When Lisa applies for the job of school Principal Martin appears in the Selection Committee.
