The National Dresscode explores the fascinating topics of clothing, image and identity. What do the clothes we wear - our uniforms, our sense of style - say about us as a nation? This format is not a programme about fashion, it is a show about clothes and personal image, where we ask the questions: Why do we dress the way we do? What do our clothes tell us about our country and generation?What is the relationship between uniforms, clothes, outfits and professions?Why do we wear ties, suits, and pencil skirts for business? In short: why do we brand Swedes “cool” and the Italians “stylish” for example? In each episode the programme host and hostess examine a new group of people and the way they dress, to discover “The National Dresscode”.From hipster media-types to sleek city workers, trendy Londoners, to bohemian New Yorkers or quirky politicians, our hosts search for clues on how clothes, personal image and style choices reflect our identity. They both take to the streets to talk to the nation’s ordinary people, as well as celebrities, to understand each aspect of the nation’s dresscode. The male host impersonates the roles of the people he meets by taking on their lifestyle and, more importantly, their clothes. He takes to the streets dressed as a traffic warden and experiences the respect his uniform instils – first hand. He tries a variety of uniforms and outfits and takes the viewer on a journey of discovery to explore how what you wear can affect how you feel. The female host looks into the history and background of how trends, items of clothing and looks came about and evolved through the years indifferent cities and countries. She also talks to experts, such as sociologists and vogue historians, to cast a light on these curious facts. Together they use creative and entertaining methods to unravel The National Dresscode.

The National Dresscode has the best share of all of SVT1’s shows in the Wednesday 9 pm slot this fall.
Compared with 2012 the average share for the same time range and slot was 10 %. For the series aired before in September 2013 the average share was 7,9 % and for the series after the average share was 9,9 %.
Average rating was 451 000. Compared with last year the rating was 361 000 for the equivalent weeks and slot. And the series in this fall has had an average of 243 000 and 353 000.
