Tastes of Britain
Synopsis
Curry has now overtaken fish and chips as Britains national dish, yet 30 years ago the only Asian foods bought in supermarkets were mango chutney and mulligatawny soup
This was the time when Dorinda Hafner arrived in Britain and English cuisine was dismissed as bland and tasteless. Now, garlic and ginger, aubergines and coriander are top of our shopping lists. In this series, Dorinda travels throughout Britain, from oyster farms in Scotland to Tudor festivals in Suffolk and discovers the secrets behind the UK’s culinary revolution. She meets cucumber picklers, dragon-boat racers and Greek plate-smashers on the way, as well as learning to cook aphrodisiac oyster paté, traditional lamb biryani and vegan Jamaican patties.
