Set in the stately homes of England and on the Isle of Man, it stars Marcella Plunkett as an ideologically-sound heroine whose life takes a turn for the worse when her father returns from a business trip with a new wife (and two step-daughters) in tow. Suddenly Zezolla – or Cinderella as her new step family call her – is banished to the attic and forced to wait hand and foot on her preening relations.
This time there’s no pumpkin or fairy godmother on hand to help her, only a rosebush and Mab, the mysterious Lady of the Lake. But Cinderella does get to go to the ball, and there she meets Prince Valiant, a guitar-playing royal keener on tearing through the fields on his motorbike than chatting up young ladies. Until he meets Cinderella in her fabulous ocean dress, that is. A fairytale fit for grown-ups.
