Physics in the late twentieth century is being dominated by one man. His theory is called ‘complexity’ and the ideas behind it have been called the science of the next Millennium. It is now on the verge of being understood and verified. Complexity tells the story of this new science through the life of the man who developed it – Murray Gell-Mann. The film will tell of his relationship with Richard Feynman, another great physicist of our time; of the difficulty he had in persuading the scientific world of the existence of Quarks; and of his Nobel Prize in 1969 for the Eight Fold Way theory. It also focuses on the relationship he has with his older brother Ben which has helped shape the way he thinks and is vitally important for his ‘complexity’ theory.
